Wildlife Hit Squad

Natural England

About the opportunity

WILDLIFE HIT SQUAD - HABITAT CONSERVATION TASKS ON NATURE RESERVE AND ACROSS EASTERN DARTMOOR WITHIN PARTNERSHIP OF CONSERVATION ORGANISATIONS (NATURAL ENGLAND, DEVON WILDLIFE TRUST, WOODLAND TRUST, DARTMOOR NATIONAL PARK AND BUTTERFLY CONSERVATION). Conservation work is primarily related to threatened fritillary butterflies. In addition there is a range of volunteer groups at East Dartmoor NNR including a practical management group and an archeological group as well as individual opportunities including species surveying and education.

About Natural England

Natural England tries to offer something for everyone, please see opportunities for Events Volunteers, Species Monitoring, Practical Conservation, Wildlife Hit Squad and History / Archaeological Volunteers. If you cannot find something that you like, the Reserve Manager will be happy to discuss your needs with you. They prefer managing volunteers in groups, so individuals will be encouraged to join others where possible.

What are they looking for?

None as full training and supervision given on each task day. A reasonable level of fitness and stamina is required for habitat conservation tasks as the tasks are physical and the terrain is often uneven and may be wet. If an individual has particular needs then this should be discussed to ensure that they are matched with suitable tasks. Many of the opportunities are suitable for those looking for employment within the environmental / conservation field or those with an interest in wildlife conservation who can bring or gain skills.
