Helpline Volunteer

Missing People

About the opportunity

The Helpline Volunteer's main task is to answer calls on a national 24-hour helpline and emails from families, missing people, runaways, police, social services and other organisations. You will provide emotional support and advice to anyone affected by the issue of 'missing' and to trace missing people. This involves; recording information on a database, signposting to other agencies, conducting searches for missing people and organising publicity, consulting with the Services Supervisor, and other administrative duties.

About Missing People

We are a lifeline when someone disappears. We are caring and highly trained staff and volunteers working in collaboration with partners across the UK. For those left behind, we provide specialised support to end the heartache and confusion and search for their missing loved one.

What are they looking for?

The successful candidate will have excellent communication and listening skills, both verbal and non-verbal. You also need to speak fluent and colloquial English, both spoken and written. A Helpline Volunteer should be calm, empathetic, and non-judgemental as well as competent in Microsoft Office and able to understand new technology quickly. Accuracy, attention to detail, reliability, and good timekeeping are also essential traits.

Following the completion of an application, you may receive an invitation to a Selection Session involving: an introduction to Missing People, a discussion about the helpline volunteer role and individual/group tasks.
