Independent Monitoring Board Member
Independent Monitoring Board
About the opportunity
Here's an offer you don't see every day - the chance to monitor the standards in your local prison. We are currently looking for new volunteers to join the Independent Monitoring Boards (IMB) within HMP Foston Hall, Derby, DE65 5DN helping to ensure that proper standards of care and decency are maintained. HMP Foston Hall is a closed women's prison located in the village of Foston, 13 miles east of Derby and 12 miles south of Ashbourne. The prison accommodates 290 prisoners including both sentenced and remand prisoners and adult and young offenders. You do not need any special qualifications or experience as we will provide all necessary training and support. You need to be enthusiastic, open minded, possess effective communication skills and have the ability to exercise sound, objective judgment. We welcome applications from people over 18 and are particularly keen to hear from young people, those of working age and individuals from black and minority ethnic communities, since these groups are under-represented on the existing Boards. New Board Members will join the existing Members of each Board monitoring the prison, talking to prisoners and staff and attending the monthly Board Meeting. Typically, this will take 3 days per month and can be flexible depending on the needs of the Board and the individual. The work is unpaid and expenses will be covered. While there is no minimum length of time for a Board Member to serve, the maximum length of service is 15 years.
