How to solve uploading to Do-it issues
While using Put Online option in V-Base occasionally you may experience difficulties or error messages. But don't worry, you can overcome these problems very easily. Here are some of the most common issues.
Problem: I do a Put Online but I get the error message ‘An established connection was aborted’.

Cause: This is a common error that causes a lot of confusion and is easily solved. It is caused by the Windows XP firewall being turned on. There is nothing to worry about as long as you can find in the Put Online details an entry saying “226 Transfer Complete”.
All your opportunities will have been uploaded to www.do-it.org.uk it may take up to 30 minutes before they are visible on the website. However your upload history in V-Base will not be updated.
Solution: Turn off the firewall before uploading and turn it back on once you have uploaded your opportunities (in order to do this consult the person responsible for your IT).
Problem: I can run Put Online but it stops at "227 Entering passive mode" and displays an error message.

Cause: MTU size or firewall not allowing passive FTP mode.
Solution: In a network set-up where a router is involved, if passive FTP is enabled and you still get errors when putting online, it would be worth checking the MTU size on the router and setting it to 1500. If you don't know how to do this, the person who installed the router should know.
This problem is most likely to occur on Netgear routers. If you’re unsure how to change this please ask your system administrator or IT support.
This message may also mean that your firewall isn’t allowing passive FTP mode. Please contact your system administrator or IT support.
Problem: When Put Online I get an error message "This computer doesn’t appear to be set-up to use the internet. The routine requires a dial-up connection."

Cause: “Ignore proxy and always use dial-up networking” option is ticked.
Solution: Please go to “V-Base preferences” then “Put online”. Check if “Ignore proxy and always use dial-up networking” is ticked. If it is, please untick it.
Please also check to see if 'automatically detect connection settings' is checked. This can simply done by opening the Windows Control Pannel and chosing 'Internet Option' on the tab 'Connections' you can choose to automatically detect settings.
And if this does not resolve the problem It is also worth checking to see if there is anything blocking the DNS such as a virus or malicious software.
Problem: When uploading data to do-it I get an error message "The requested name is valid and was found in database, but it does not have the correct associated data being resolved for..."
Cause: This is caused by internet security software like Norton Internet Security or Kaspersky Internet Security preventing FTP communication.
Solution: Creating an exception for PutOnline.exe in your internet security software will allow the upload to go through. Please contact your system administrator to create an exception on the firewall.
