Writing Good Copy workshop

Tania at Volunteer Centre Colchester explains how taking advantage of YouthNets free Writing Good Copy workshop is really playing dividends.

“It’s always nice when things go well; to know that our efforts are appreciated and organisations are pleased with the service we provide.

At present, we’re working towards achieving well-written descriptions, as well as eye-catching role titles for all the active opportunities that we advertise on Do-it. We offer all existing and new organisations that register their opportunities with us assistance in drafting or redrafting their descriptions to make them stand out.

After attending a ‘Writing Good Copy’ training session at YouthNet and having taking onboard a few suggestions from the Do-it proof-readers we have gained more knowledge about the do’s and don’ts of opportunity description writing. We are now armed with enough know-how to support our organisations in this area – improving the responses they receive from prospective volunteers.

Finding little ‘thank you’ emails and messages from organisations that are benefiting from our service is becoming more common. An environmental charity, which provided us with information about their admin role and left it in our hands to tweak and produce a final draft, said: “Thank you very much for your really helpful suggestions, which I feel are excellent.”

Also, the Fundraising Manager from a leading cancer charity wrote: “That is brilliant, and I agree it would be good to have the word ‘team’ in the title.”

We hope to continue with this service and look forward to helping many more organisations successfully recruit volunteers.”
