Posting out of area
Added to Do-it knowledge bank on May 12, 2010Organisations posting opportunities must make sure the postcode they enter for each opportunity is correct, so they can be found by volunteers searching on the site
If a national organisation contacts a Volunteer Centre (VC) to advertise their opportunities:
- The VC should advertise the opportunities using either the postcode of the local branch of the national charity, or the VC's own postcode if the specific location of the opportunity is unknown eg an activity taking place in woodland
- The VC should not use the postcode of the organisation's head or regional office if it's outside the VC's area
- VCs can only post outside of their area if they are covering another area without a VC
- If the opportunity is taking place in a location outside the VC's recruitment area, the VC can specify this in the opportunity description, but still has to recruit using their local postcode.
These steps should also help reduce applications from volunteers outside your catchment area.
To change opportunities that have been posted using an incorrect postcode you will need to log on to V-Base and correct the attached postcode:
1. Click on "Opportunities" in the left-hand side menu
2. Type in the name of the opportunity in the search box (if you have opportunities with similar titles it might be easier to enter the opportunity's ID)
3. Click on "Find" to display the opportunity's details
4. Change the current postcode to the correct postcode. This should be the postcode of the where the opportunity is taking place (as long as it's in your area), or your own postcode
5. Click on "Put Online" in the top menu and simply follow the wizard's instructions to make effective changes on the website.
