Ever fancied getting involved in running a charity? Want to develop new skills of strategic thinking and financial planning? Being a trustee could be the answer.

Get on Board, a new campaign from The Governance Hub, is encouraging people to volunteer as trustees within voluntary and community organisations.

Trustees are the people responsible for ensuring that a charity or community organisation has a clear strategy, that it remains true to its original vision, and that it complies with all necessary rules and legal obligations.

Being a trustee is an incredibly important role, which makes a huge difference to the success of organisations of every size. Trustees look after a staggering £39 billion of funds for the 190,000 registered charities in England and Wales.

But trusteeship is more than a great way to make a difference to a good cause. As a respected and responsible role it is also a good route for developing skills, gaining more experience and getting involved with new networks.

Read more about being a trustee in our features section, or visit the Get on Board website.
