Bloggers wanted

Would you like to tell the world what volunteering means to you? Would you like to inspire others through do-it.org.uk? This may be your perfect opportunity.

What are we doing?

do-it.org.uk has launched a series of blogs providing volunteers with a chance to talk about their volunteering experiences.

Participants add frequent updates to one of the blogs which have been set up using our system. Full training is given to all bloggers.

This blogs enable you to promote the work you are doing and also provide an insight into the world of volunteering. We're looking for people who feel they have something to say about the work they are doing and are excited about this high profile opportunity.

Who are we looking for?

Currently we're runnnig blogs on the following categories:

  • Volunteering overseas

Are you about to start volunteering overseas? Are you already working as a volunteer outside of the UK?

One of our new blogs will focus on what it's like to be a volunteer abroad. We'd like to hear from you if you think you'd be able to write about preparing to volunteer, your experiences whilst you are there, and what you feel you've learnt from the experience.

  • Campaigning

Do you work for a campaign group or charity as a volunteer? Do you use time as a volunteer to bring about social change?

This blog will focus on the campaigning aspects of volunteering, those grass root activists that make things happen for large charities or political organisations. You'll have the chance to talk about what you're doing and promote your campaign.

  • Student

Do you find time to volunteer while earning a qualification? Would you like to encourage other students to give something back?

This blog will focus on student volunteers who are interested in enhancing their CVs, making friends outside of the academic bubble, or simply making a difference. If you're a student who gets a kick out of volunteering, we'd like to hear from you.

We're also recruiting for:

  • Sport

Do you like to combine volunteering with staying active and keeping fit? Are you driven by helping others to reach their sporting potential, or do you just like to keep the five-a-side strips clean?

This blog will show how passion for sport can transfer into more than just watching an event. If you're involved with organising or assisting with activities, campaigning, or coaching, on a voluntary basis, then you could be an ideal candidate to write for our sports blog.

And there's more

Although these are our starting themes, we're looking to continually expand the areas covered by the do-it.org.uk blogs. So if you think your work as a volunteer would be interesting for others to read, and if you think you've got the wit, talent and drive to be a successful blogger, then get in touch.

What will you be doing?

Volunteers will be blogging on the do-it.org.uk website, posting frequent updates about their own volunteering experience, their thoughts on volunteering in general and anything else they think is relevant.

Our bloggers will be able to speak openly, with their own voice, about the ups and downs, the best and worst of their volunteering experiences.

What experience is needed?

We're after engaging and interesting writers; you don't need to be a trained writer or journalist but you do need to be able to write clearly and honestly about your experiences.

You can write under your real name or a pseudonym.

You'll be using our web-based blog tool, and will receive training on how to use the tool before they start. So you'll need to have regular access to the internet if you want to take part.

What next?

If you're interested in taking part then drop an email to volunteer@youthnet.org with details of why you think you'd be appropriate for this opportunity. We'll then get back to you with more details of what would be involved.
