New charity, v, aims to get one million more young people volunteering.

A new youth volunteering charity called v has been launched with the aim of getting 1 million more 16-25 year-olds involved in volunteering and community action by 2010.

The charity, which came out of the Russell Commission report commissioned by the government, plans to develop new volunteering opportunities for young people and to run a series of high profile campaigns to get young people involved.

As well has having an advisory board of young people, v has four trustees aged under-25 and proudly boasts of being youth led.

"v aims to set new standards in the quantity, quality and diversity of volunteering for young people," said Chief Executive, Terry Ryall. "We want to make volunteering a 'normal' part of young people's lives, providing them with tangible assets for their future as well as for society at large."
