Life online...

You're here. You know how to use the web. You've got the skills! Why not volunteer to help pass IT on?

You could help someone get more out of life – just by helping them to get online.  Almost nine million people have never used the internet in the UK, and they're missing out on all the wonderful things the internet can do!

Just imagine if the internet was taken away from you for a week? Think how much you rely on it in your personal and professional life? In fact, in the UK:

- The average Joe can save up to £560 / year from shopping and paying the bills online

- 90% of all new jobs require basic internet skills

- Over 25 million people use Facebook to keep up to date with family and friends

And what about all the other amazing things you can do like exploring interests, uploading photos, watching BBC iPlayer, YouTube, Skype and even online dating!

So why not share your skills to help someone get online for the first time? You could inspire someone who doesn't know about the benefits of the Internet to give it a try and they could soon be involved in this new world.

There are thousands of organisations around the UK, including 3,800 UK online centres, already supporting people to take their first steps online. Many of these organisations need volunteers to support them and they are looking for your help! Why not take a look through the Do-it database for digital champion opportunities near you and make a difference to someone's life?  You can easily show only digital champion opportunities by doing an advanced search and then selecting 'Computers, Technology and Websites' in the second box of Section 2.

For more information and support, please visit www.go-on.co.uk where you can also sign up to the digital champions network to receive regular updates and exclusive offers to help you pass on your skills.
