The Students' Blog e-mail this to a friend

If you think students spend all their spare time avoiding studying, going out with their mates and having a good time then you'd be right. Well our student bloggers do anyway. While they assure us they don't slack on the study, they've got a lot to answer for when it comes to enjoying themselves while volunteering.

Friends

Okay so i've told you how good it is to volunteer, and so have Ashley and Moira and eveyrone else on here. But then we are all kinda bias because we all enjoy it so much and write our blogs. What about the people which don't write about their experiences? Well i thougth abotu this and decided to ask some of my volunteering friends why they did it so here goes ...

Why do you volunteer?

"Erm, well, I enjoy it, thats one reason..Also its good for the cv/personal statement Plus personal development  And theres great people there"

"coz i wana be a paramedic and i wana get the expericne and confidenance b4 its too late"

"you get to meet loads fo new people who trun out to be the best friends as you share so much together . it';s loads fo fun and looks good on ur CV !! "

What is the most memorable thing about volunteering?

"the first person i helped out was really memorable as all teh hard work had paid of which rocked."

"passing the first aid exam was a really gd day. i passed ! and so did everyone else which made it really good and means we can go out and get proper experience now."

See i told you ti was good ! now you don't have to just take my word for it.

Till next time take care

Student Finds Volunteer Work Fulfilling

by Liban Hussein

I am an 18-year-old full-time media student at Waltham Forest College. I also volunteer and have done so since I was 16. People tell me I have strong level of maturity, and that I don¿t act my age.

I am a confident, enthusiastic young person who always strives to achieve the best possible. I love to help people in need, whether they have a menthol problem or have a disability. Old or young, I just love to help them.

When I was 16, I started volunteering in my free time at a local Oxfam shop as a sales assistant. The people where very nice and I really learned many things.

After six months, I started to volunteer part time for Shopmobility in Walthamstow, caring for the elderly by visiting their homes and taking them out for shopping and to cafes. I still do it today.

I really enjoyed and learned many things. The people told me many stories and experiences of their lives.

I want to tell my story to young people who have free time and are just hanging around the streets of London.
