The Students' Blog
If you think students spend all their spare time avoiding studying, going out with their mates and having a good time then you'd be right. Well our student bloggers do anyway. While they assure us they don't slack on the study, they've got a lot to answer for when it comes to enjoying themselves while volunteering.

Happy new year
happy new year to everyone - hopefully next year will be full of fun and happiness !! yay
next year i will turn 18 so i can count as a proper adult in St John which will allow me to do more stuff with the cadets as well as teach a wider variety of courses . Also hopefully a trip will be organised so we can all have some fun ! yay ! after all that is what volunteering is about. We are also hoping to set up the youth council again, which gives certain members of the division a chance to reflect their views on matters which concern them, from ideas of fundraising, trips, publicity, courses or special events. It is very useful to all to find out what the cadets want out of the divison and to try and help achieve this.
anyway hope you all have a fun new year

The bigger picture .... o yeah and christmas !!!
hi all - only 6 days until xmas, hopefully u've done ur xmas shopping and put the tree up.
now we've broken up for christmas from school, all the teachers were going on about the bigger picture, and where our a-levels are 'taking us'. St. John has definately affected my career choices in a way which has kinda confused me more. I was so sure i wanted to be a social worker before and now i am not so sure. I want to work with children/young people for sure but what exactly, i'm still not sure. At teh momnet my fav. subject at school is psychology so i might go into something to do with that. hmmm...i'll have a think over xmas and let you know what i decide, along with revising for all my exams in january
hope ur all having a fun time off school and are staying safe

My Goals for Next Year...
OK, so I have been thinking and think it would be good to set myself some goals to work towards for the next year volunteery wise; and would like to share with you.
Then we can look back in a year's time and tut and huff and what I said I would do and never got round to. Like everyone does with their new years resolutions hehe!!
Right here goes...
- Complete or very near completion of my girlguiding leadership qualification
- Get clued up on child protection through some sort of course
- Stay with Brownies and help make the pack a happy and successful place to be
- Organise a trip for the packs (or at least our own pack) in the area for a visit/to see something.
They seem pretty simple - number two is almost organised, and will look fab on my CV too. Number 3 goes without saying. Number four is harder than it sounds but sort of ties in with number one anyway. Number one is a major task, but determination will get me there!
That just leaves me to say, have a fab ten days run up, and an even better christmas and new year period. Hope father christmas comes (and is not stingy like my mum said he would be this year) and the food is yummy. Don't let the cat eat the turkey or the dog open all the smelly/chocolate presents - they are stories for another day!
All my love for the festive time,

We all feeling the christmas spirit?
CHRISTMAS woooooo!!
Don't ya just love it?
OK, I've only got half of my christmas shopping done, and no I haven't got round to tidying my room to put my decorations up but hey, the kiddies make me feel festive. (and I realise that is not an excuse for my lack of shopping and tidying my room!!)
First of, Beavers blah blah blah, had a fundraising event with coffee, food, raffle, bouncy castle. Good time had by all I think. Then on Wednesday they had a party with food, games and crackers. Again, think the boys enjoyed it. Personally, I am not enjoying beavers that much as I did and there are a few reasons behind that. One being there are a couple of parents who stay and help and think they own the place and really make me (being a lot younger) feel quite pushed out of it which I don't think I should feel seeing as I turn up every week.
Brownies however is a completley different matter!! Love it Love it Love it!! Last Thursday I organised the evening as a christmas craft night where they made cards, magnets and salt dough decorations. Also a girl made her promise and joined the pack which was nice! Then last night we painted out decorations we made the week before and glittered and sequined them up. Then had a few games and them for the food. Then more games, the exchange of a card shop full of christmas cards and then home time!! Then early January we are off to the panto to see Cinderella, as a christmas trip for all the district. Looking forward to that!
Everything else in my life is pretty hectic. Trying to be at college or placement all day long, then come home, keep on top of my college work which is never ending and having time to do my well loved volunteering and try to get out of the house to socialise. But hey, I would complain if I wasn't kept busy!!
All my love,

Not long to go ...
Hi all! hope you are all well and have got lots of xmas pressies sorted - i've finished all my xmas shopping now - i have never been this organised before !!
Not really that much to report, everything is beginning to wind down. There isn't really many duties at the moment because most of the xmas fates etc have been and gone and it's too cold to do much else. The cadet first aid course has finished will all passing- well done !! I think that is due to all the hard work from the cadets and adults to get the course finished and revised. It is the cadets xmas party this week which should be lots of fun and a great reward to everyone who has worked really hard throughout the past year to make sure they pass the courses and for their dedication, as well as the adults who commit a lot of their spare time.
Until next time get Christmas shopping, only 12 days to go !!!
