The Students' Blog e-mail this to a friend

If you think students spend all their spare time avoiding studying, going out with their mates and having a good time then you'd be right. Well our student bloggers do anyway. While they assure us they don't slack on the study, they've got a lot to answer for when it comes to enjoying themselves while volunteering.

A-Levels are hard

Hi all - hope you are well

The new term is getting started now and the new cadets are beginning to settle into the group quickly, with everyone doing their best to make all feel welcome. The new courses have been decided - Film and Photography and Casualty Simulation. Two very differnt courses for the cadets to choose from, which should keep everyone happy and help them on their way to their Grand Prior (the top award).

I have started sixth form at my school now, which is really hard. I am taking five A-levels; Law, Psychology, English Literature, Biology and Gereral Studies. Which means lots of essays - which means less time to work on St. John and look for new adult memebers. :(

I am also working towards my Millenium Volunteers Award, which will give real recognision for my volunteer work, help to publisise St John and hopefully gain more members and help my university personal statemenet. So it's really a win win situation - except for the fact i loose free periods at school and it takes a lot of work. But if it keeps the cadet division running it's worth it, as the current lack of adults situation does not appear to be getting any better all the publicity we can get is very good.

Until next time...

The new term

The new term is just about to start and all the new courses have been arranged. Last Wednesday we decided which courses to run, and who would teach and then asses these courses. We decided the two courses would be media and photography, and casualty simulation. These will run for the next five week, and the cadets all seem excited to begin the new term.

We also have new cadet member starting this term, most of who are from Badgers, which is the younger version of cadets. Hopefully all the new cadets will fit in well and make lots of new friends.

However, there is beginning to be a problem with cadets, not just in our division but all over the county. The number of adults willing to give up their time is decreasing and because of this the cadets division has a serious problem. If not enough adults are willing to come the cadet division will have to decrease in numbers or close. We have asked the adults division if any of them would be willing to come, and have asked if a rota system for the adults would help increase the numbers.

hope everyone is enjoying a new year at school/college/uni
