Let's face it, most people who volunteer are passionate about helping people - but for some influencing social change is also important. Volunteering for a campaigning organisation allows volunteers to help make things happen for large charities. Find out what the grass roots activists get up to here.

Training Mania with the Youth Achievement Awards

Hi Everyone,

Hope everyone is well.

So as you can gather from my title I've been looking at training well in a sense I have...

I don't know if you've heard of the Youth Achievement Award which is an award that you can gain if your aged between 14-25 and depending on how old you are and what you as a an individual feel  you can achieve can depend on what level you do.  For 11 - 14 there is also whats called Youth Challenges which are being used in educational projects.  You can read more about it at :-

 http://www.ukyouth.org/whatwedo/Programmes/YAA/

Through my volunteering I am going to be doing the Platinum Award which is leadership level where you lead a group of young people which is going to be a placement of 60hours minumum and also take up training again has to be a minimum of 30hours.  Which is 2 of your challenges in the platinum then you've to evaluate how you've progressed in doing this and then deliver a presentation at the end on your award.

The group of young people I will be leading will be YPRAG and I think I'm starting to realise how much work is actually going to be involved in this although I am enjoying it.

For my training I will be undertaking a course in Volunteer Management which should be interesting to see how much I've learnt so far and....how much I still need to learn.  So its back to keeping diary sheets and logging everything I do rather than just doing it and forgetting about it.

Even though I now realise how much work is involved in it now I'm really enjoying it so far and think that getting the group up and running maybe scary to begin with but should be really interesting and fun to do.  So next part is explaining it to YPRAG so that they understand what is involved in taking up the YAA, which I will do next week but I'll also be explaining to the Barnardos regional trustee arghhh. What have I let myself in for???haha!

No all should be good. Better get back to it :)

Till next time folks!
